Safari experts & storytellers. Since 1991
Trust us to find you the rarest animals, the most spectacular wildlife events, the remotest landscapes and deeply meaningful cultural encounters!
This journey weaves together three of Kenya’s most characterful landscapes and cultures. You will spend time with Samburu communities, Laikipa ranch families and Maasai guides to learn about their daily life, storytelling and traditional skills.
A safari shaped by culture, wilderness and Kenya’s most iconic people
Maasai-guided safari in the Maasai Mara. Explore the Maasai Mara with Maasai guides who know every valley and viewpoint, adding depth and context to each wildlife sighting.
Samburu cultural immersion. Spend time with Samburu hosts, learning about pastoral life, traditions and the stories behind age-old customs.
Reteti Elephant Sanctuary visit. Visit a pioneering community-run sanctuary to see rescued elephants up close and understand how local people drive conservation.
Traditional skills & craft. Try your hand at blacksmithing with Samburu artisans and gain insight into the practical art that has supported generations.
Laikipia ranch life. Experience a working conservancy on the Laikipia plateau, where wildlife, livestock and people share the same landscape.
Scenic flights. Light aircraft flights link remote valleys, highland plateaus and the Mara, keeping the journey relaxed and unhurried.
Namunyak Conservancy (Northern Kenya). A vast, community-owned wilderness in the northern ranges, where dramatic rocky outcrops, acacia-dotted valleys and seasonal luggas support elephant, reticulated giraffe and other dry-country wildlife. Samburu communities still live traditionally here, and conservation and culture are closely intertwined.
Laikipia. A vast highland plateau of rolling hills and escarpments, Laikipia is a conservation frontier where elephants and predators share space with livestock herders and rare northern species like reticulated giraffe and Grévy’s zebra. The sense of space and freedom here is unmatched.
Maasai Mara National Reserve. Kenya’s most celebrated wilderness, the Maasai Mara, is the stage for Africa’s great wildlife drama – from the thunder of the Great Migration to intimate predator encounters in the golden grasslands. Year-round, it offers extraordinary diversity and energy, the essence of safari itself.
3 nights at Sarara Treehouses (Namunyak Conservancy). An intimate, elevated forest camp tucked into the hillside, with thatched treehouses overlooking wooded valleys and distant peaks. The atmosphere is immersive and personal, with close links to surrounding Samburu communities and access to Reteti and other community projects.
2 nights at Ol Malo Lodge (Laikipia Plateau). A characterful, family-run lodge perched on a rocky escarpment with sweeping views over the Laikipia landscape. Stone and timber architecture, horse-riding culture, and strong ties to the local community create a stay that feels both relaxed and deeply rooted in place.
4 nights at Tangulia Mara (Maasai Mara National Reserve). A riverside tented camp in a quieter corner of the Maasai Mara, offering classic game viewing with a strong Maasai guiding presence. Canvas rooms, campfire evenings and views over the river capture the feel of traditional safari with an authentic local voice.
The best time to travel is July to October, when wildlife viewing in the Maasai Mara is at its strongest and conditions in northern Kenya and Laikipia are generally dry and clear.
This period offers excellent opportunities to witness Great Migration activity in the Maasai Mara while still providing rewarding cultural and wildlife experiences in the north.

Stefan Winterboer, Kenya safari expert: “Kenyans are bold, chaotic, and incredibly alive - every person contributing, building, doing. Then, add these 3 amazing landscapes to create pure, dynamic, cinematic Africa. This trip blends theatre with reality."
Linda Fox, Kenya safari expert: “From horses, helicopters and camels to endless views, Ol Malo offers it all. Sitting by the fire with the Francombe family, hearing generations of stories and Samburu connections, I felt deeply moved and inspired.”
Our community manager, Sarah Goodman, says, “Spending time with rescued elephant calves at the Samburu community-owned Reteti Elephant Sanctuary is an unforgettable experience, and adopting one leaves a meaningful legacy.”

Handcrafted experiential safaris since 1991.
Travel in Africa is about knowing when and where to go, and with whom. A few weeks too early/late or a few kilometres off course, and you could miss the greatest show on Earth. And wouldn’t that be a pity?
