HANDCRAFTED EXPERIENTIAL SAFARIS

Trust us to find you the rarest animals, the most spectacular wildlife events, the remotest landscapes and deeply meaningful cultural encounters!

This Serengeti migration safari in Tanzania offers the best experience in this vast wilderness – from the dramatic Mara River crossings of the north to the open tree-dotted eastern plains

"They came thundering from all sides, driven by a primordial instinct and sucked in by the cacophony and energy of those already crossing, plunging into the Mara River. Seemingly without a care, they chanced their luck against the current, the rocks and the crocs. Chaotic, pulsating, exhilarating…" Simon Espley, Africa Geographic CEO

Be prepared for the drama of the river crossings and the wonder of the vast open plains

Locations and Lodges

This safari begins in Arusha town. Located at the foothills of Mount Meru, it is the gateway to Tanzania's northern safari circuit. It offers easy access to the vast and world-renowned wilderness, Serengeti National Park. The Maasai people named it a “place where the land runs forever”, a land synonymous with the very essence of an African safari, where sweeping grass plains, rocky outcrops, leafy woodlands and fertile volcanic soils create the perfect habitat for the region's populous herbivores and well-fed predators.

  • 1 night at Katambuga House: Katambuga House is an oasis of tranquillity within Arusha – the gateway to your immersive Tanzanian safari experience.

  • 3 nights at Esirai Mobile Migration Camp: This mobile Migration camp, is a real "Out of Africa" experience. It’s small and intimate, with only eight guest tents, and moves seasonally following the course of the migration.

  • 3 nights at Olmara Camp: A tented camp established in the far eastern plains of the Serengeti, a remote and wildlife-filled pocket lying at the crossroads of the endless grassy plains and the woodlands.

Timing

In the Serengeti, timing is key: January to March sees the wildebeest calving in the south, drawing predators. April to May brings lush scenery and fewer visitors, though rains may limit access. From June to October, the dry season is ideal for safaris, with excellent visibility, fewer mosquitoes, and the iconic Great Migration herds moving north and dramatic Mara River crossings (July-October). In November and December, short rains green the plains and herds return south, creating beautiful backdrops and superb predator action. Each season reveals a unique facet of this legendary wilderness.

Once we know more about your experience wish-list and ideal timing, we will tailor-make this safari idea just for you.
