  • Scenic flight from safari to sea, flying from the untamed Kruger wilderness to Mozambique’s idyllic coast, swapping safari dust for sea spray

Locations

  • Timbavati, Greater Kruger, a private reserve that shares an open ecosystem with Kruger National Park, is home to the legendary Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) and other species such as cheetahs, wild dogs, zebras, hyenas and giraffes. Greater Kruger access is exclusive to lodge guests, ensuring a private wildlife experience.

  • The islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago, located on the Mozambique coast, are situated within a stunning marine protected area featuring five islands with white-sand beaches that dip gently into exquisite, azure-coloured waters, and coral reefs that shelter an astonishing array of sea creatures. Bazaruto is one of the most valuable marine sanctuaries along the East African coastline, protecting six species of dolphins, over 2,000 species of fish, southern right and humpback whales, orcas (killer whales), 122 species of sharks and rays, five species of turtle and flamboyant nudibranchs, among other creatures. The most popular residents of the Bazaruto Archipelago with tourists are whale sharks, manta rays and dugongs.

Lodges

  • 3 nights at Tanda Tula Safari Camp (Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, South Africa): A modern, refined lodge blending authenticity with understated luxury. Enjoy open-air dining, poolside serenity, and exceptional guiding in a pristine bush setting.

  • 4 nights at Santorini Mozambique (Vilanculos, Mozambique): Perched above the azure waters of the Indian Ocean, Santorini combines Grecian-inspired architecture with warm Mozambican charm. Relax in a private villa, enjoy ocean-fresh dining, and explore the beauty of the Bazaruto Archipelago.

Timing

The best time to experience this bush-and-beach itinerary is from April to October, when conditions in the Timbavati are ideal for wildlife viewing, and the Mozambique coast enjoys warm, dry weather with clear seas perfect for snorkelling and other water activities.

The mild temperatures of winter and spring make this period exceptionally comfortable, avoiding the extreme summer heat and humidity.

Safari tips

“Beachside paradise”

Ramona Cilliers, AG luxury safari expert: “Santorini is a taste of the Mediterranean but with classic African hospitality. Waking up to incredible sunrises and planning a tailored day exploring sand and sea, the personal service and crafted cocktails left me wanting for nothing.”

Safari tips

"Excellent game viewing"

Repeat AG guest Roger Whittle (UK): "The first stop was Tanda Tula, and as usual, the game viewing was excellent. Great sightings of lions bringing down a buffalo, rhino and calf, leopards, and the first sighting of a harrier hawk attempting to break into a hornbill nest in a tree trunk, to name a few. Looking forward to the next visit."

Safari tips

“Meaningful safari choice”

Our community manager, Sarah Goodman, says, “For me, choosing the Timbavati means backing hands-on conservation and community work. Eco-tourism directly funds anti-poaching and sustainability projects that protect rhinos, pangolins, and Southern Ground Hornbills – making it a meaningful safari choice.”

Travel in Africa is about knowing when and where to go, and with whom. A few weeks too early/late or a few kilometres off course, and you could miss the greatest show on Earth. And wouldn’t that be a pity?
