This safari will show you the best of Kafue National Park, Zambia's largest national park and the second-largest in Africa. Central Kafue offers a diverse landscape with riverine forest, miombo and savannah woodlands, expansive open plains, and striking granite outcrops. Northern Kafue is rich in wildlife. This area is home to elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffalos, and various antelope species. Hippos, red lechwes and waterbirds thrive in the wetlands of the Busanga Plains
3 nights at Musekese Camp: The camp sits atop a low ridge overlooking a seasonally inundated grassy floodplain, or dambo, which extends to the Kafue River. Musekese has conservation at its heart, focusing on preserving wildlife and habitat in Kafue.
3 nights at Ntemwa-Busanga Camp: This intimate camp offers a rustic charm and modern comforts in its four spacious Meru-style tents. A seasonal camp with a strong wildlife conservation ethos is based in the remote northern Busanga Plains and known for extraordinary lion-viewing opportunities
"Wholeheartedly, an excellent trip! Great people, great camps, great experiences and great memories!" ~ Linda R, United States
"A delight in all aspects. We loved our stay at Musekese and Ntemwa Busanga Camps—beautifully located, well-run, with friendly staff, excellent guides, and great food. A flawless experience in Zambia’s stunning Busanga Plains." ~ Peter T, South Africa
Kafue offers excellent dry-season wildlife encounters from April to mid-November. The later months are best, as the dry season peaks and animals congregate near available water, but note that September to November will be warm to hot, whereas May to August offers mild temperatures.
The rainy season months (December to March) experience heavy downpours, which render most of the park largely inaccessible. This time of year is excellent for birders looking to make the most of the influx of migratory species, though Busanga Plains remains strictly off-limits at that time of year.
Visiting Kafue in November? The Ultimate Kafue Safari can easily be combined with a safari to see the Kasanka bat migration - the largest mammal migration on Planet Earth.

Christian Boix, Zambia safari expert: "Expect huge herds of red lechwe and puku on the floodplains, and roan and sable antelope in the drier woodland areas, while lions, leopards and wild dogs work the herds. Watch out for the stunning pennant-winged nightjars in the fading light ..."
Our Destination expert, Nadia Lautenbach, says, "Consider routing your journey to finish in Livingstone, Zambia. This allows you to spend a few unforgettable days exploring Victoria Falls from the Zambian side — often quieter and just as spectacular."
Our CEO, Simon Espley, says, "Kafue is managed by African Parks, who are highly successful in conserving biodiversity while adding meaningful value for nearby rural communities. By booking this package, you fuel that process; you help keep Kafue wild."
