Location and lodges

Maasai Mara National Reserve. Kenya’s most celebrated wilderness, the Maasai Mara, is the stage for Africa’s great wildlife drama – from the thunder of the Great Migration to intimate predator encounters in the golden grasslands. Year-round, it offers extraordinary diversity and energy, the essence of safari itself.

  • 1 night at Tamarind Tree Hotel (Nairobi). A contemporary city retreat offering comfort, quiet and the warmth of Kenyan hospitality — the perfect overnight before your flight into the Mara.

  • 5 nights at Enkewa Camp (Southeastern Maasai Mara National Reserve). An authentic tented camp set in a private, remote corner of the reserve near the Sand River. Combining traditional canvas style with understated comfort, Enkewa offers an atmosphere of solitude, attentive service and a strong conservation ethos.

  • 4 nights at Sentinel Mara Camp (Central Maasai Mara National Reserve). Nestled in a peaceful riverside forest on the Mara River, Sentinel evokes the elegance of classic safari life. Its spacious canvas tents and refined simplicity allow guests to feel deeply connected to the sounds and moods of the wild.

Timing

The ideal time for this itinerary is from July to October, when the Great Migration reaches the central Maasai Mara and Mara River crossings are at their most dramatic. These dry months bring clear skies, short grass and constant movement across the plains. Outside migration season, from November to June, the reserve remains superb for resident game and predator viewing. The southern Mara, quieter and greener at this time, offers rewarding photography, excellent big-cat encounters and a deeper sense of solitude.

Safari tips

“Kenya at its finest”

Stefan Winterboer, AG Kenya safari expert: “Kenyans are bold, chaotic, and incredibly alive - every person contributing, building, doing. Then, the Maasai Mara -  pure, dynamic, cinematic Africa."

Safari tips

“Golden photo opportunities”

Linda Fox, AG Kenya safari expert: "One of my favourite moments in the Maasai Mara was setting out at dawn to photograph lions, golden light in their manes, eyes fixed on us and set against the Mara’s sweeping savannahs, winding rivers, and dramatic escarpments."

Safari tips

"Make a difference"

Our CEO, Simon Espley, says, "Both lodges selected for this epic safari go to the ends of the world to employ local people and provide them with well-paid, fulfilling jobs. By booking this package, you fuel that process; you help keep the Maasai Mara important to local people."

Handcrafted experiential safaris since 1991.

Travel in Africa is about knowing when and where to go, and with whom. A few weeks too early/late or a few kilometres off course, and you could miss the greatest show on Earth. And wouldn’t that be a pity?
