Namibia hosts the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, and rhino) as well as a host of other species, such as cheetah, brown and spotted hyena, zebra, ostrich, oryx, hippo, and crocodile. The western region of the country hosts unique desert-adapted elephant, lion and black rhino.

June to mid-November marks Namibia's dry season, when wildlife sightings are at their best due to reduced vegetation cover and the lack of surface water, forcing wildlife to congregate near permanent water sources.

Late November to March marks the summer season, which brings hot days and potential rainfall. These months witness Namibia's landscapes transform into shades of green, baby animals everywhere and the arrival of migrant bird species. April and May are transition months as temperatures reduce, the rains disappear, and the landscapes begin transition into winter colours.
