Bird-watching safaris

Plan my dream safari

HANDCRAFTED EXPERIENTIAL SAFARIS

Trust us to find you the rarest animals, the most spectacular wildlife events, the remotest landscapes and deeply meaningful cultural encounters!

Tick off those African bird species

Africa has nearly 2,500 bird species on the mainland and its associated islands, and ticking them off your life list is a major focus for passionate birdwatchers. Bird-watching is also a popular additional activity on classic safaris - in between the lions, elephants and sundowners.

This great continent and its islands host many rare and endemic species, such as the Nechisar nightjar (known only from a single wing found on a roadkill corpse) and Shelley's crimsonwing (never photographed in the wild), as well as oddities like shoebills and the bizarre yellow-headed picathartes. Spectacular avian jewels such as the many parrot, sunbird, turaco, hornbill and starling species ensure that even casual birders are well-entertained.

We craft tailored itineraries based on your target bird species. For example, a repeat client enjoys photographing finch, waxbill, canary, and weaver species. We have taken him to several iconic destinations, such as the highland Albertine Rift region of Uganda, the dry Kenyan parks, and the endemic-rich arid areas of western Namibia.

Why choose us to craft your safari?

Handcrafted experiential safaris since 1991.

Travel in Africa is about knowing when and where to go, and with whom. A few weeks too early/late or a few kilometres off course, and you could miss the greatest show on Earth. And wouldn’t that be a pity?
