Perhaps you have always wanted to see the Big 5 with your family, trek for mountain gorillas, or watch the drama of the Serengeti great migration, followed by sand-in-your-toes time on a white sandy beach. Or maybe you seek absolute wilderness, where it's just you and your thoughts.
We make these dreams come true for you. All you need to do is either schedule an appointment with your personal safari expert or fill in this simple form, and someone will get back to you. Yes, by booking through Africa Geographic, a portion of the revenue from every safari sold gets donated to carefully selected conservation projects that make a significant difference at ground level. YOUR safari choice does make a difference - thank you!
Our safaris typically cost from US$700 per person, per night, depending on the accommodation comfort level, time of year and activities. This price usually includes accommodation, all meals, game drives, experienced guides, airport transfers, and 24/7 support from our team.
You only make your first payment when you book your holiday. Your second (last) payment is about 105 days before you travel.
Peak season bookings require 12–18 months of advance planning. Trips outside of peak season can be arranged 6–9 months ahead, with better rates and availability.
For peak-season travel from July to October in popular destinations such as East Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe, we recommend booking 12 to 18 months in advance. Highly sought-after lodges, exclusive-use camps and private villas may require reservations 12 to 24 months ahead. For shoulder-season travel, 6 to 9 months is generally sufficient, while 3 to 6 months is often workable for green-season travel. Booking early gives you the widest choice of destinations, accommodation and availability.
Absolutely. As Africa Geographic's extensive safari experience confirms, you'll spend most of your African holiday in relatively remote wilderness areas where crime of any sort is extremely rare, if not non-existent. Following the guide’s instructions and keeping a respectful distance from the wildlife is also recommended to keep you safe from harm.
Safari length depends on interests and budget, but plan 5–7 days minimum for multiple parks and wildlife variety.
In our experience, safari length directly correlates with wildlife viewing success and overall experience quality, especially if you’re travelling from far away, such as from the USA or Europe.
After decades of crafting exceptional safari experiences across Africa, we've analysed what makes for unforgettable wildlife adventures. Here's our comprehensive guide to help you determine the ideal duration for maximum value and wildlife viewing success.
It’s one of our most frequently asked questions, and certainly one of the most Googled safari FAQs: “What should I pack for a safari?”
Fortunately, the answer to this question is a relatively simple one – though it is nuanced. Safari packing requires neutral layers, sun protection, insect repellent, headlamp, and soft bags meeting strict 15–20kg aircraft limits. You can access our full packing guide here.
Depending on your destination, you may need vaccinations for diseases like yellow fever or malaria prophylaxis, and other preventive measures for your African safari. Whether you're heading out on a luxury safari or a rustic adventure, it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional well in advance of your trip. Vaccinations and medications are crucial for a safe and healthy safari experience. By preparing in advance, you can ensure your adventure is both enjoyable and free from preventable health issues. Yes. Combining multiple destinations is one of the best ways to experience the diversity of Africa. Many itineraries include different parks, reserves, cities or coastal destinations, allowing you to enjoy a variety of landscapes, wildlife and experiences in a single journey. Depending on your itinerary, travel may be by road, light aircraft or scheduled flights. Africa Geographic specialises in creating seamless, tailor-made journeys that combine destinations to suit your interests and travel style.
Travel in Africa is about knowing what, when and where to go and with whom – for the ultimate experience. A few weeks too early/late or a few kilometres off course, you could miss the greatest show on Earth. And wouldn’t that be a pity?
The most important part of that equation is WHEN TO GO ON SAFARI. The time of year you select for your African safari will influence your wildlife encounters, the weather and ultimately, whether your safari meets your expectations.
The month-by-month analysis here is a broad description of a typical safari year in Africa, but of course, ongoing seasonal variations and natural cycles require the in-depth and current knowledge of our safari experts.
Africa Geographic excels at planning safaris because we live and breathe Africa. Our team of passionate experts has deep, on-the-ground knowledge of each destination, built through years of experience, strong relationships with trusted partners, and a shared love for wild spaces. We don't believe in cookie-cutter holidays: every journey is tailor-made to match our travellers’ dreams with the most authentic, meaningful, and memorable experiences Africa has to offer. We’ve been creating handcrafted, experiential safaris since 1991. Extraordinary journeys don’t happen by chance. Travel in Africa is all about timing, location, and trusted local knowledge.
