Thornybush Private Nature Reserve
Nestled in the scenic Limpopo Province, Thornybush spans over 12,000 hectares of wild bushveld in the Greater Kruger. This remarkable reserve features a diverse landscape of open savannahs, woodlands, and riverine forest. It is a sanctuary for the Big Five – lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo – as well as many other species such as giraffe, honey badger, zebra, and the elusive pangolin. With over 500 bird species also calling it home, Thornybush offers numerous birdwatching opportunities through guided walks and drives. Guests can experience thrilling safaris, both day and night, indulge in luxurious spa treatments, and savour delectable local cuisine, all within a stunning natural setting.
Sabi Sands Game Reserve
Also in Greater Kruger and bordering the Kruger National Park, the Sabi Sands Game Reserve stands as a premier private wildlife destination and was South Africa's very first private nature reserve. Covering 65,000 hectares of diverse terrain, including savannahs, watering holes, dry riverbeds, Lowveld woodlands, and the perennial Sabi and Sand Rivers, this reserve is renowned for its exceptional wildlife viewing. Guests can frequently spot the Big Five, along with cheetah, zebra, giraffe, and various antelope species. Highlights include immersive wildlife safaris, dining beneath the stars, guided bush walks, and stays at the opulent Simbambili Game Lodge. Sabi Sands is world-famous for its leopard sightings, offering perhaps the best chance in Africa to observe these elusive big cats in their natural habitat. But leopards are just the beginning—roaming packs of wild dogs, majestic lions, and large herds of elephants are also frequent visitors, making every game drive a thrilling adventure. The reserve’s abundant water sources, a rarity in this otherwise arid region, contribute to its rich biodiversity, supporting a wide variety of species.
Cape Town
Nestled at the meeting point of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans and set against the majestic backdrop of Table Mountain, Cape Town is a vibrant city brimming with attractions. Its stunning white sandy beaches, renowned wine routes, and breathtaking mountain trails offer a picturesque setting for exploration. The city boasts a lively cosmopolitan atmosphere with top-notch shopping, dining, historic landmarks, and a chic waterfront harbour. Enjoy awe-inspiring views of Table Mountain, visit Boulders Beach, where you might encounter penguins in the warm Indian Ocean, stroll around the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens with its treetop canopy walk, or visit Robben Island, home to the cell where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years of imprisonment.
Franschhoek
Located just over an hour from Cape Town in the stunning Cape Winelands, Franschhoek is celebrated as a premier food and wine destination. This charming heritage town offers visitors a rich blend of nature, gastronomy, and culture. Franschhoek is renowned for its exceptional wineries and attracts connoisseurs with its acclaimed Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cap Classique sparkling wines. The area features exquisite five-star restaurants set against breathtaking valley landscapes that have inspired artists and writers for centuries. The town hosts a renowned literary festival each May and is also known for its elegant Cape Dutch manor houses, intriguing museums, and delightful boutiques. Whether visiting in winter to enjoy the festival and cultural attractions or in summer to explore the lush farmlands and mountains through hiking and cycling, Franschhoek promises a memorable experience.

Explore with penguins – Stand-up paddle, kayak or conservation walk near Boulders Beach, Simon's Town where African penguins waddle around as if you are not there
Explore Cape Point – History, wildlife and nature

You will start the day by heading past the Surf Mecca Beach of Muizenberg before stopping in Kalk Bay, best known for its working fishing harbour and bohemian feel. Here, you will start the day with a coffee in one of your favourite bakeries/coffee shops. At Kalk Bay, you will walk through this very quaint old holiday town filled with antique shops, galleries, craftspeople and vendors. From here, you will drive along the coast towards Simon's Town, where you will search for a splinter colony of penguins on a beach mainly enjoyed by locals. Perhaps if the weather is favourable you could test out your balancing skills on a stand-up paddle board/kayak to get to know the penguins in their environment. (This is optional). Alternatively, you will be taken on an educational and enlightening penguin walk on the walkways bordering the penguin sanctuary.
Your guide will tell you more about the rich naval history as demonstrated in the museums and monuments, providing plenty of insight into this historical harbour town.
You will then continue to the Cape of Good Hope. In the Cape Peninsula Reserve you will enjoy a gentle hike exploring secluded beaches, shipwrecks and unique wildlife such as the Cape 5 (ostrich, baboon, mountain zebra, bontebok and leopard tortoise).
Wind the afternoon down with a visit to the local Noordhoek Farm Village, where you can all enjoy a delicious artisanal ice cream at Kristen's Kick Ass Ice Cream, before heading back towards the city centre along the most scenic drive of all: Chapman's Peak. Stop at a magical surprise location for an early evening drink as a local.
