Pungwe Safari Camp is an intimate, comfortable and authentic bush camp which brings back the essence of a true safari experience – the enjoyment of the wildlife, sounds and smells of wild Africa. This off-the-grid rustic camp utilises solar and generator power for refrigeration (including ice), lights and charging your devices and ‘donkey boilers’ (water boiled over wood fire) for bathroom water. The camp is in Manyeleti Game Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger National Park.
The communal area consists of a thatched lounge, bar and dining area, with a fire pit nearby for those long fire-side discussions.
The 4 en-suite canvas Meru-styled tents have thatch roofs to keep temperatures down during those scorching summer days. The large tents offer simple but elegant comfort, en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water and flush toilets. The beds are either twin or large king-sized, with cotton linen and fluffy duvets.
The canvas walls keep you safe from nocturnal animals, while allowing in that quintessential soundtrack of roaring lions, rasping leopards and softly hooting owls.
Pungwe offers afternoon/evening game drives in open 4×4 vehicles and guided morning walking safaris. Replacing the morning bush walk with an additional game drive is possible, at an extra charge. This is a Big 5 area – with regular sightings of lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes and many other species.
