Kenya’s second most popular safari destination after Maasai Mara, Amboseli National Park is perhaps best known for its famous view of nearby Mount Kilimanjaro, which is in fact in neighboring Tanzania. This small park is also home to many elephants, most of which are relaxed near safari vehicles and some of which are amongst Africa’s last remaining big tuskers.
Melted snow from Kilimanjaro travels underground and surfaces in the center of Amboseli, providing marsh habitat and water for a variety of species. The low scrub vegetation makes wildlife easy to spot – including resident lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffalos, zebras, giraffes and a variety of antelope species. Amboseli hosts approximately 400 bird species.
